The divan bed |
9 Oct |
The divan bed is still the most popular style of bed in the UK and it has been for many years. The divan bed consists of a base and a mattress which can be similar or contrasting fabric covering. The base can offer useful storage for bedding or other items depending on the depth of the base.
The base is the essential support for the all important mattress which can be an internal sprung system, solid latex or memory foam. The most popular at present is the sprung mattress, generally speaking the more springs a mattress contains the greater support it will offer. At Timeless Beds you will see two types of sprung mattress coiled or interior sprung, and pocket sprung mattresses.
The robust coiled or interior sprung systems are specifically designed to evenly distribute body weight over the surface of the mattress. Naturally these will vary from maker to maker but generally these comprise feature row upon row of springs linked together with a spiral wire, which ensures the mattress retains its shape throughout its life.
The more luxurious pocket sprung divans comprise smaller lighter spring each individually wrapped in pockets working individually, just like piston moving up or down with the changing shape or pressure from the body.
